Weed and Seed

Our assignment was to edit an article that came out in a Huntington newspaper and do the headlines for it according to the numbers. I found the headline writing for this one to be hard because I couldn't fit Weed and Seed + Streets to Beats in the same line. I made it work as much as I could according to the guidelines. The editing wasn't as difficult after we went over a Parthenon article in class on Thursday.

Headline Order
Print : 2: 4-48-2 BB Streets to Beats helps teens
Weed and Seed leads program
Online: 2-24-2 BB Taking teens off the streets
Organized by Weed and Seed
HUNTINGTON -- A new city program is designed to take young adults off the streets and jump start their music careers according to the press release.
The "From the Streets to the Beats" initiative is organized by the Huntington Police Department's Weed and Seed Program.
The program gives young adults access to weekly GED classes, life skills classes and stateoftheart recording equipment. Organizers saythe audio equipment will provide participants a chance to cut a demo tape and press kit.
The Weed and Seed program is funded with money from a federal grant. It is designed to battle violent crime, drug trafficking and drug-related crime in a designated high-crime area.
Successful participants can receive assistance with job training and placement. They also receive information about furthering their education at a college or technical school.
The Weed and Seed Program will host a kick-off party Wdnesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the A.D. Lewis Center. Free information, food and drinks will be provided, along with live entertainment by "M.C. Rhythm," "MOE," "WIZDOM," and others. Participants also can tour the Barnett Center and its facilities.
Anyone needing more information should call Carey Fleming or Tim White
