Faculty members filed into the basement of the Memorial Student Center to hear about important faculty business, and to argue the language of a bill that hadn't been proof read.
The packed room full of faculty members, both official and guests who came interested in new business spent almost 40 minutes arguing on the consistency of language on the subject of tenure. The discrepency in language pertained to the proposal that would allow faculty members seeking promotion and tenure to recieve written rationale about negative comments. If this proposal wasn't accepted, faculty members would still have the right to request such documents.
President Stephen Kopp addressed the faculty about the alternative salary adjustment amount across-the-board would be equal to $1,227 from the pay period from October 2010 through May 2011. Non-Eligible faculty for this pay increase inlcudes part-time, temporary or newly hired faculty and also excludes medical school faculty. Only four-year faculty would benefit from this increase.
Kopp said that the problem on campus is faculty compensation". The solution for that problem would be to raise tuition, but Marshall can only raise tuition 5 percent without approval from HEPC.
